Thank God for antidepressants is about honesty and putting things in the light : the struggles, the fears, the frailty and the questions of Jane Newman’s journey to a life of fulfillment in spite of the on-going need of antidepressants.

Why write my story?

Elie Wiesel, holocaust survivor, author & Nobel prize for peace, says it this way: “We know that every moment is a moment of grace, every hour an offering; not to share them would mean to betray them.” (Night) I can’t say it better than that!

This story is for you…

…whether you are yourself struggling with depression & the need to take antidepressants, or whether you are a companion to one who does & wishing to better understand them. I am not writing as an expert, nor am I writing from objectivity. I am writing as one who is IN it. I write to give each reader hope & the realization that they are not alone. I write to break the needless, shameful silence.

Right now I feel really, really well. This can be confusing for my friends, as in the case of the one who asked me, but do you still suffer from depression? Are you alright? My answer is both Yes, & No. Yes, I do still suffer from depression, because if I didn’t take my antidepressants, I would be more than a basket case. No, because, with the antidepressants, I do not suffer from it. So Yes, I am more than alright. I can live a fulfilling & full life. But I would not be alright if such medication did not exist, & if God had not also stepped in with His gracious, healing touch.
